Let kindness ripple from the inside...

The Three Tenets of Mindful Self Compassion - Grounded in evidence-based research and created for everyday life.

MINDFULNESS

Our ability to be present with what is happening at this moment. Rather than pushing away discomfort we gently notice it. We say “this hurts“ or “this is hard”, and not exaggerate or minimize our experience.

COMMON HUMANITY

We remember that suffering is part of the human experience. We are not alone in our pain, even when it feels like it. Others struggle, too. We are in this together.

SELF-KINDNESS

Instead of judging ourselves harshly or trying to “fix” everything, we offer warmth and understanding. We ask ourselves, “what do we need right now?” And we try to respond with compassion.

Mindful Self-compassion isn’t about avoiding pain- it’s about meeting it with love.

Hi, I’m Gila.

I am a practicing Speech-Language Pathologist with over 30 years of experience helping individuals with diverse communication needs. Like many helping professionals, I have spent years showing up for others with care, commitment, and compassion. Yet somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn’t extending that same kindness to myself. As I struggled with persistent self-criticism and perfectionism in many areas.

Burnout, emotional exhaustion, and the constant pressure to keep everything together became familiar challenges, and I knew I needed a change. Yoga was the doorway that opened my path to self-care. In 2020, discovering Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) felt like uncovering a vital missing piece. This practice gave me permission to be human—to meet myself with kindness, especially during moments of overwhelm and uncertainty.

MSC didn’t replace my existing self-care but enriched it. The mindfulness I cultivated, whether on the yoga mat or in daily life, grew warmer, gentler, and more compassionate. My focus shifted from striving for perfection to simply being present with what is.

As an educator, I am deeply inspired to share MSC with others, helping them cultivate the same self-kindness and resilience that has profoundly supported my own growth and well-being.

Self-compassion means being gentle, kind and understanding with yourself; accepting that you are not perfect; and understanding that there is potential for learning and growth in every mistake you make.

Self-compassion is one of the easiest ways to shift your mental health. In fact, self-compassion is a superpower that we have in our back pockets, and most of us don’t even know it’s there.
